My 2 Cents
Doing a 60 day juice fast isn’t necessarily the easiest or the most healthy way to lose weight for most people, in my opinion. By juicing fruit and veggies you are losing virtually all of the beneficial fibers, unless of course you eat the pulp – or drink green smoothies
What I would recommend instead, is simply to add freshly made vegetable/fruit juices (and smoothies) to your diet. Unless you’re a committed, disciplined type, don’t go cold turkey on juice reboot diet, just ADD the juice. As the days go by, drink more and more of it, until you find yourself eating less and less of everything else.
Next start replacing your “meat and potato” type meals with more fruit, vegetables, as well as some whole grains and beans. Once all that’s accomplished, then try the juice fast.
Taking cold turkey plunge into the juice fast is challenging to say the least, and you might just fold and abandon the fast too quickly, and never return to the wonders of juicing. That’s why it’s better to ease into this gradually.
Also, you need to be aware of the detox effect – with some unpleasant side effects – that will kick in if you go into this too quickly.
Also, buy a really good juicer. If it’s not easy to do the juicing, it will become the excuse to quit. I recommend Breville which you can buy at a really good price at Amazon.com.

Whether you are just starting up with juicing or have been juicing for a while and feel like you are getting it’s nice to keep a few juicing books in your kitchen to keep your motivation high and provide new recipe ideas.
While it may be difficult to recommend just one juicing book to buy – as it’s hard to tell which is the best juicing book for you – here are a few book ideas to choose from. Each of these books is different, and all of them are worth their price to be able to reach for them whenever you want.
Complete Book of Juicing: Your Delicious Guide to Youthful Vitality by Michael T. Murray
This is the first book I purchased when I started juicing, and I still refer to it regularly. It provides wealth of information on the NUTRITIONAL components of fresh juice and its benefits for health. It has a section on the fruits and vegetables with the benefits of juicing each. There is a nice section on recipes(both with nutritional value and caloric content). There is a section on weight loss by juicing and a section which recommends different recipes to juice for different health problems.
Keep in mind that there are no photos or color illustrations in the book, so if you are a visual person you may want to check out the The Big Book of Juices instead.
The Juicing Bible by Pat Crocker
This book is a very comprehensive resource for juicing inspiration. It is much more detailed than your average juicing book. It’s separated into quite a few sections, ranging from simple juices to recipes for using the leftover pulp. Keep in mind that in most recipes she calls for use of spices, herbs, and some quite uncommon ingredients, for example, lavender, powdered licorice, powdered linden flower, borage leaves, acai berries, red raspberry leaves, stinging nettle, kelp, astragalus root, meadowsweet and apricot milk.
So if you are looking for a straight forward book that just offers simple, basic juicing recipes – you may prefer to go with “Complete Guide to Juicing” – as this is not for you; all of the extras will definitely turn you off. But for those of you looking for something that goes beyond your standard carrot-apple combination, this is sure to please. This book really goes above and beyond your typical juicing guide, with options for those that want to add a little more to their juices and really utilize every part of produce used.
It starts off with a mini-encyclopedia listing herbs, fruits and veggies which can be used in your juicing. Offered is a quick summary of each item, how to use it in juicing, and health benefits of each (good for digestion, cooling, antispasmodic, etc.). Then, there’s a section on common health illnesses which lists juices (and other juice-type items, all of which have recipes in the book) that may help the ailments, as well as dietary tips, foods and herbs that may help the disorder, and some lifestyle changes to try.
The rest of the book has the following sections:
1. Fruit Juices
2. Vegetable Juices
3. Cocktails — these are juices with a little something extra, like yogurt, milks, spices, etc.
4. Frozen treats — most of these recipes utilize leftover pulp from juices
5. Roughies — these are actual food recipes, using the juicing pulp from other recipes
6. Smoothies — uses juices and frozen fruit
7. Digestive Aids and Cleansers — the title section speaks for itself
8. Milk substitutes — recipes for nut milks, apricot milk, fig milk, etc.
9. Coffee substitutes
10. Teas and Tonics — these recipes are mostly for medicinal teas which are geared towards alleviating body ailments and/or aiding and encouraging natural bodily functions and processes.
The Big Book of Juices by Natalie Savona
“The Big Book of Juices” is one of the most creative books on juicing. It’s also one of the most beautiful – the pictures of the juices are amazing and you might be intrigued by all the different shaped glasses the author found to display the juices in.
The fruit and vegetable blends are especially delicious. Who would have thought that grapefruit would go so well with carrots and celery. And how about broccoli with pears? Yet these all seem to work well. Also, each recipe is “graded” on 5 areas with 0-5 stars; energy, detox, immunity, digestion and skin.
As a side note: If you’re not a fan of combining fruits and vegetables in the same recipe – as some people aren’t – this is not the book for you — virtually all of these recipes combine the two food groups.
While you need a juicer for most of the recipes, she also provides recipes for your blender. There are also some recipes for teas made with fresh herbs.
Juicing, Fasting, and Detoxing for Life by Cherie Calbom
The book focuses on detoxing your body in order to become healthier. It starts by talking about health, explaining the how’s and why’s of juicing, fasting and detoxing. Then it goes into the specifics of cleansing your colon, liver, gallbladder and kidney. In the final chapters the authors include information on the nutrient content in food, recipes to use while fasting and detoxing, and a nice resource guide.

They also contain a high amount of Vitamin C, which can help prevent flu and cold. Apricot is a highly recommended fruit by doctors.
Blackberries are a good source of preventing heart diseases, cancer, premenstrual tension and high blood pressure. They are rich in vitamin C and have a good amount of beta-carotene. Blackberries also contain vitamin B and E as well, and they have some important minerals in them which are potassium, magnesium and calcium. They have a high amount of iron in them as well and build blood in the human body. Blackberries are very widely eaten and people love drinking blackberry juices as well. A good way of eating them is by mixing them with prunes.

Fresh Aloe Vera Juice Recipe
Aloe Vera juice has become very popular as a natural remedy for various conditions.
Most people use aloe simply by cutting off a piece of leaf and squeezing the liquid onto their skin. This works, but it wastes the inner gel, which is the most potent part of the plant. To use the gel, you’ll need to “fillet” the leaves rather than merely squeezing them (see the video at the bottom of the page).

One of its key features is the big 3-inch wide feeder tube, which helps cut juicing time by allowing you to put in whole produce without the need for cutting them into smaller pieces. If you want a fast juicer where you can just throw the fruits and vegetables in one end of the machine and have juice come out of the other end, this is a good choice. All you need to do is to put whole fruits or veggies into the feeder chute, and gently press down using the pusher.
The Hamilton Beach Juicer juices fast and is very easy to use. What this means is that you would just have an easier time preparing your juices.
With quite powerful yet quiet 1.1-horsepower motor this centrifugal juicer is powerful enough to juice just about anything from pineapple, melon, apples, oranges, and grapes to tomatoes, celery stalks, cucumbers, carrots, beets, spinach, kale, and more. The Cons
Durability. You will find that the Beach 67650 Big Mouth Pro Juice Extractor is well made for its price, however, it may not be as durable as more expensive juicers. You can find some reviewers complaining that it broke down after a relatively short period of time. The good thing is it comes with a 1 year warranty, so you can get it fixed or replaced if it breaks down in that period of time.
Efficiency. The juicer may not be the most efficient in getting all the juice from the pulp, especially with soft fruits and vegetables. So, even though it’s inexpensive, it may not be the cheapest to operate in the long run if you factor in the cost of produce, because you waste some of it in the process. With hard fruits and vegetables, this juicer is very efficient, producing fine, slightly moist pulp. However, if you are making juice from soft fruit, you will end up with soft, mushy pulp. So for softer stuff like watermelon and spinach leaves, you may prefer to use a blender instead to make it into a smoothie.
Keep in mind that the problem with efficiency is not a problem with this particular model, but a fault with all centrifugal juicers. A masticulating juicer would produce dryer pulp wasting less produce, but would take a lot longer to operate. It takes more time to make a cup of juice with a masticulating (grinding gears) juicer. A citrus juicer makes citrus juice only.
A perfectionist or very frugal person would probably opt for less wet pulp waste by buying a masticulating juicer such as an Omega 8005. A person with a busy lifestyle would probably prefer a fast juicer that is easy to clean like this one. A person who drinks citrus juice a lot would probably buy a citrus juicer. If you are making wheat grass juice, then buy a wheat grass juicer.
Depending on your needs, you may choose to buy a different juicer. However, for the price, it is a great juicer.

Lemon Juice For Acne and Acne Scars

What Lemon Juice Does on Your Skin
Lemon juice, as we all know, is acidic. Sometimes the whole problem in acne care is that the skin is not acidic enough for all the other treatments we do to work.
Although you may have heard about the importance of alkalizing the interior of your body for health, the surface of the skin is actually healthier when it is acidic, with a pH between 4 and 5. Lemon juice has a pH of around 2.3 Lowering the pH of the skin makes it a lot less comfortable for bacteria. It makes the pores a lot less hospitable to the bacteria, without causing them to send out the chemicals that trigger an immune reaction that result in inflammation and redness on the skin.

** Lemon juice helps lessen the appearance of blemishes, blackheads and acne scars.
** The acidic makeup of lemon juice makes it a perfect exfoliator.

In terms of your teeth, a pH of 5.5 and above will cause little or no harm. At 5.5 and below, a liquid will work to strip the protective enamel from your teeth. Although my guess is that a very small amount (for example, 1/4 of a teaspoon) in a full 8-ounce glass of water might not have enough acidity to pose a significant risk.

Are Cranberries Recommended for Treatment of UTI?
If you already have a urinary tract infection, you probably want fast results, and in this case antibiotics seem to beat cranberries.
For the comparison – published in Archives of Medicine – researchers at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam recruited 221 premenopausal women with recurrent urinary tract (bladder) infections. Half of the women took capsules containing a cranberry extract every day for 12 months, while the other half took the antibiotic trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim) every day for the same period of time.
What happened? Urinary tract infections were almost two times more common in women given the cranberry extract capsules than in those given the antibiotic. On average, women in the cranberry group developed a new infection after four months, as compared to eight months for the antibiotic group.
But women in the antibiotic group were three times more likely to develop antibiotic resistance. That’s a phenomenon in which infectious bacteria become resistant to the effects of antibiotics – meaning they are harder to control.
“Cranberries are less effective in the prevention, but do not result in resistant microorganisms,” study author Dr. Suzanne Geerlings, an infectious diseases expert at the center, told HealthDay. By David W Freeman

How to Prevent Urinary Tract Infections with Cranberry Juice
While no single study convincingly demonstrates the ability of cranberry to prevent UTIs, the sum total of favorable evidence combined with laboratory research tends to support this use.
Although critics say that the studies are not conclusive and there are no clear dosing guidelines, but given the safety of cranberry, it may be reasonable to recommend the use of moderate amounts of cranberry juice to prevent UTIs, especially recurring urinary tract infections, and avoid the excessive use of antibiotics.
Although dosage for preventing UTIs is not clear, juice at least 1/2 cup and drink every day for a minimum of 3 weeks.
Also, to prevent urinary tract infections, drink lots of clear liquids – up to 10 glasses per day, avoid caffeine, and empty your bladder regularly.

It’s truly simple.
Natural, unprocessed, plant-based diet is best for both your skin and the rest of your body.
The key appears to be that there is nothing (or at least as close to nothing as you can get

* First off, let me congratulate you on adopting a very healthy, earth-friendly habit of consuming lots of fresh fruits and vegetables as a part of your daily diet. (That’s what you are doing, right?)
* If you are drinking fresh juice, then you probably don’t buy the bottled stuff, which is also tons easier on the planet because you don’t have to throw away the plastic and glass bottles that once housed your favorite juicy delight.
* We all know that juicing is good for your health – so it saves precious resources in the long run that would be spent if you were ill and had to undergo extensive treatments or hospital care.
7 Tips on How to Make Juicing Even More Earth-Friendly
1. Reuse the pulp. Juicing is wasteful in a sense that we discard an important part of the plant: the pulp. So, to cut down on the waste, use the pulp in your baking and cooking recipes. For example, you can also make broth from the pulp for seasoning and soups.

7. Reuse orange peel. Orange peel is very versatile, as I learned from this article. For example, you can use the orange skin to scrub and deodorize your kitchen sink. Or, a puree blend of orange peel and water can be applied to an area to discourage ants from crossing (I have to try this one, we had lots of ants in our kitchen and on the balcony this year).

However, but if the rest of what you eat consist of animal protein and processed foods, then you are not doing your body a favor.

Here is the recipe for the tonic:
4 whole carrots
Handful of parsley; to absorb some of the smell of garlic
1 clove of garlic
1/4-inch piece of ginger root
1 Apple sliced
1 (Optional) Splash of Hot sauce (such as Tabasco)
First, run the ginger and garlic through your juicer. The best way to do it – to reduce some of the strong odor of garlic – is to wrap them in the parsley leaves and feed them into the juicing machine.
Next, juice the carrots and apples. Add some hot sauce for more punch, if you like.
This combination of ginger, garlic, and capsicum in the Tabasco sauce is recommended as a very effective mixture for lowering cholesterol levels. Generally speaking, single gear juicers or twin gear juicers will do a great job with any type of greens. These juice extractors will give you a higher yield, preserving all the nutrition, thanks to lower heat production during the juicing process.
However, even if you have a centrifugal juicer you can make green juice. Here is how to go about it:
First, when buying fresh spinach it should be dark green, fresh-looking, and free from any evidence of decay. Slightly wilted spinach can be revived to freshness by dipping it in cold water.
To prepare spinach for juicing, wash it under running water. If using non organic spinach, you may want to soak or spray it with a biodegradable wash, then rinse. Use a salad spinner to dry.
The leaves can be used as is. You don’t need to remove the stalks, as you would for a salad.
Boll up springs of spinach in your hand and then feed into the juicer.
Introduce them one by one into the feeding chute of the centrifugal juicer, together with harder produce, such as a carrots, celery, apple, pear, etc.
That’s basically all there is to it!
All that remains to be done is to capture the nutrient-rich juice in a glass or in the juicing machine’s container, and drink to your health!

Spinach juice on its own is quite strong, so I encourage you to experiment mixing it with other juices, such as carrot, tomato, apple.

It’s a fact: eating fresh fruits and vegetables and juicing them is an essential component of good health. It’s best, when at least 70% or more of your nutrition comes from fresh fruits and vegetables in their RAW, unprocessed state; and drinking juices prepared with your own juicer is a great way to add more fruits and veggies to your diet.
Millions of dollars are spent on cancer research each year. And yet our “war on cancer” has brought us no closer to finding a cure that we were fifty years ago. Cancer is proving to be a disease of lifestyle, environment, and culture, and not a condition caused by a genetic factor, microbe or germ.
Almost every cancer research organization in the world is supportive of the consumption of fruit for cancer patients and as effective cancer prevention. Every day you can read articles about published studies that discovered yet another health benefit of this or that fruit.

Many companies are jumping on the fruit bandwagon, making supplements made from fruits and however many of these companies are just out for your money. One example is the recent health supplement craze, the Acai berry fruit. While no doubt acai berries in their raw, ripe state are an excellent food choice, rich in antioxidants and other nutrients, but so are blackberries, raspberries, cherries, oranges, cranberries and other fruits. The truth is no health supplement can compete with fresh fruits and vegetables in their raw whole form and their juice.
While there are some misguided individuals trying to warn us that fruit is detrimental to cancer patients, sound scientific studies do not support those statements. Since cancer has been associated with an acid condition in the body, these individuals mistakenly assume that the sugar in fruits, and especially the acid in “acid fruits,” such as oranges and grapefruits, will acidify the body. However, the chemistry of digestion demonstrates that this is not so. It is the mineral content of a food that is the main determining factor as to whether the food produces an alkaline or an acid reaction in the body. Since alkaline minerals predominate in all fruits, including acid fruits, they have an alkalizing effect upon the body.
Laboratory researches have demonstrated that when cells in a petri-dish are submerged in an appropriate nutritive environment and the toxic waste products of their metabolisms are efficiently removed, healthy cells result. To date, it has not been possible to cause cancer in these healthy cells, no matter what carcinogens they are briefly exposed to. While fruits may not be as alkalizing as greens, their reputation as acidifying foods – that is not recommended for cancer – is completely unfounded.
At least 70% or more of your nutrition should come from fresh fruits and vegetables eaten in their RAW state. Juicing is a great way to easily add more vegetables to your diet – especially the green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, kale, lettuce, cabbage, parsley, celery, and other that are essential to our well being. We must also limit consumption of acid-forming foods like cooked proteins, heated oils, fried foods, processed foods. We cannot expect to be healthy and cancer-free if we regularly consume unhealthy foods, even if we also eat large quantities of fruit and greens.

Finally! Healthy Nutrition Made Easy: Learn How to Prepare Delicious Green Smoothies That Your Family Will Love!
Drinking juices freshly extracted from fruits, veggies and greens is a fantastic way to add important nutrients from fruits and vegetables to your diet; nutrients that can be assimilated quickly and easily by your body.
However, as I mentioned in my post about Benefits of Juicing Vs Blending (the post that discusses some disadvantages of juicing – which you may find it’s odd on the juicing site, but it’s my honest opinion), juicing may or may not be the ideal solution for you for several reasons.
1. For some people the problem is that juice is too concentrated. If you juice a lot of sweet fruit (such as apricots, mangoes, pears, etc.) and sweet vegetables (such as carrots), the resulting drink will contain lots of sugar. This can be an issue for people with chronic conditions such as diabetes or candida. On the other hand, if making green juices from greens such as parsley, kale, etc. – even though they are super healthy – you need to be aware consuming large amounts of them on a regular basis can be mildly toxic and cause some unpleasant side-effects. So, in case of juicing for health, more is not necessarily better.
2. In the process of extracting the fluids you get rid of some very valuable parts of the produce, namely the fiber. Fiber plays a very important role in the process of digestion, as it slows down the absorption of nutrients, helps to clean the digestive tracts of toxins, and improves bowel movement. And although drinking a glass of fresh juice is a tasty appetizer, it is not a satisfying meal by itself.
3. Juicing can be time consuming and messy. Depending on which type of juicer you own and how much time during the day you have, this may or may not be an issue for you, but I think this is a problem for a lot of people, including myself.
So, what’s the good alternative to making your own juice?
Smoothies.

Smoothie Recipes
You can easily eliminate all three problems with green smoothies.
1. You can make smoothies from a mixture of fruits and greens, or prepare vegetable smoothies, that are not very sweet or concentrated at all – because they contain all the fiber that is in the produce.
2. You get to keep the fiber, which makes drinking smoothies more satisfying, as the fiber gives you the feeling of fullness.
3. Making smoothies takes less time, especially during cleanup.
So, if you are looking to incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and leafy greens(!) into your diet, then making smoothies is a super easy way to do it, and a great alternative to juicing. It is much faster, less messy, and you also get fiber in addition to juice, so you get that feeling of satiety.
Plus, smoothies are really delicious, too!
Smoothie Recipes: Making Green Smoothies
While making smoothies is not a revolutionary idea, many people still haven’t thought or heard about green smoothies or vegetable smoothies that are truly delicious and are made solely from fresh, raw produce (without any milk, soy milk, or similar ingredients).
The idea to blend various kinds of leafy greens, fruits and vegetables to create a liquid soup with a baby food consistency is not new. About 5 years ago that Victoria Boutenko (from the Raw Family) greatly popularized the concept of the Green Smoothie.
The green smoothie is essentially a blended drink made with fruits and leafy greens, with some optional water, blended at high speeds to smooth consistency.
Great Ingredients For Your Green Smoothie Recipes
GREENS: any kind of greens will do, either from the store, from your garden or even backyard, including kale, dandelion, kale, collard greens, beet tops, bok choy, chard, spinach, parsley, lettuce, arugula (love it!), mint, basil, cilantro (excellent!), or other. Young, tender greens are better. Iceberg lettuce, although not very green at all, can be used too.
FRUITS: any type of fresh fruit is great, make sure it is ripe: bananas, pears, apples, mango, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, kiwi, pineapple, melon, papaya, watermelon, grapes, or other. Frozen fruits work great too.
VEGGIES: cucumber, celery, avocado .
Some fruit and green combinations you may want to try:
- Bananas, strawberries, spinach
- Apples, bananas, and some lemon or lime juice, spinach
- Parsley, celery, spinach apple and/or pears
- Spinach, bananas, peaches, mango
- Kale, bananas, mixed berries (I buy frozen mixed berries at BJ’s – they are excellent!)
- Spinach and celery with blueberries
- Parsley and ripe pears
Add 1-2 cups of water and blend until smooth. Adjust proportions to your liking. Try to experiment with different greens and fruits. Fruits are added for sweetness, so make sure they are really RIPE, especially bananas. Beautifully ripened bananas look like this:

Okay, so I need to add more spinach here, but I really love sweet taste of bananas!
Smoothie Recipes Tips
1. Initially, if you are not used to consuming lots of greens, I recommend that you start with spinach as the main green ingredient, because of its mild taste. Experiment with stronger tasting greens – such as arugula, parsley or cilantro – by adding only small amounts.
2. You can use any blender as your smoothie maker machine, but if you are planning on preparing lots of green smoothies with tough greens and veggies, such as kale or celery, I recommend that you should splurge on a Vitamix or Blendtech blender. Although quite more expensive than regular blenders, they are truly super-machines, that make great, super-smooth smoothies, plus they can be used as food processor to make other recipes too.
3. At first, you may feel uncomfortable adding greens to your smoothies, and you may be discouraged by a strange color of the resulting concoction – but trust me – you’ll love it!
So, this is what a green smoothie looks like:

Juicing The Inexpensive Way
Homemade juice is touted as a treatment for many ailments and a healthier alternative to processed store brands.
Although many of these claims have yet to be substantiated, the best reason for buying a juicer and making your own juice is also the tastiest: Homemade juice tastes fresh because it is fresh, and when you make your own juice, the varieties are endless.
Juicers are available in a vast array of forms and range in price from expensive to outrageous. A stainless steel health food store version with more attachments than the average vacuum cleaner can easily set you back more than a month’s wages. Even less complicated discount store varieties carry a hefty price tag. Unless your physician has prescribed a special diet that requires a juicer with certain capabilities, you don’t need the best juicer on the market to launch your introduction into the world of juicing. This is especially true if you don’t already love fresh, homemade juice and are merely hoping to adjust your tastes and your lifestyle to include them.

Because many people buy juicers or receive them as gifts and then decide that juicing is not for them, there are always an abundance of juicers on the resale market. You can save money on a juicer by looking at online auction sites, for sale notices, thrift shops and rummage sales.
Because many people naturally want to try to recoup some of the large investment they made during their juicing phase, they often ask unreasonable prices for used juicers at yard sales and in advertisements. By the time a juicer has reached a thrift store, however, that emotional attachment has been broken, and you can often find gently used, or even unused, juicers at a huge discount.
Right after the winter holidays is a very good time to search thrift stores for appliances. Many people go through their cabinets and closets looking for items to donate so that they can make room for the new things they received over the holidays, and that juicer they bought, or received as a wedding present, may look like the perfect candidate for the donation box. Look for juicers that are still in their box. Often, unwanted gifts have never even been out of the box, so look for shreds of wrapping paper still clinging to the box.
Open the box carefully and look for original packing materials and paperwork. An owner’s manual, recipe book and warranty card, especially if they are packed inside a portion of the juicer, are good hints the item has never been used. Examine the juicer itself for leftover food particles, wear marks or scratches. Rubber, non-skid bumpers on the bottom of the appliance should be shiny and unscuffed. Keep looking. If you are diligent, you can walk away with a brand-new juicer for under $20.

Juice, What a Surprise! Join My Promotional Campaign of Freshly Made Green Juice
I’m sure you have all seen the milk commercial: “Milk/What a Surprise!”, which now has changed to “Got Milk?”
They are everywhere: on TV, in magazines, and, of course, in schools. The campaign was started in 1995 to improve milk sales by promoting the supposedly great benefits of adults drinking milk. It’s been extremely successful, thanks to skillful mix of subtle humor and celebrity pictures to convey its message. The photographs shot by Annie Leibovitz – such as this of Pete Sampras below – showed pictures of celebrities and popular stars becoming an instant hit.
Here is one example from this campaign. A picture by Annie Leibovitz, 1995. Tennis star Pete Sampras, the number-one-ranked world champion from 1993 to 1998—and seven-time Wimbledon winner—was a fan of the milk mustache ads and volunteered to be a celebrity subject.

Does “Milk and dairy build strong bones”?
I grew up drinking cow’s milk from birth, and I still drink it in small quantities on a fairly regular basis.
However, I don’t believe it to be a health food any more.
The dairy industry is one of the most powerful industries in the U.S., earning over $50 billion and spending over $200 million annually to spread the message that dairy products nutrition is necessary for human children’s health. They’re smart enough to target mothers and kids, because they can create habits for life if a child is drinking cow’s milk at an early age.
What many experts and scientists have been pointing out for quite some time, though, is that cow milk’s large fat molecule is acid- and mucus-forming in humans; thus we are all “lactose intolerant” to one degree or another. Our grandparents, with their strong genetics, withstood it well. Unfortunately, our own children with three generations of weakened genetics, are not faring so well.
One of the most preeminent nutrition researchers in the world, Colin T. Campbell, PhD, conducted the most comprehensive, longitudinal research study in history, known as the Oxford-Cornell China Project. Published in 2004, The China Study research dietary habits and disease rates in 6,500 adults in China over almost 30 years. The study presented massive evidence that casein (the protein in milk) is linked to high rates of disease when consumed at a rate of 20% of the diet, which is the norm in the U.S.
Campbell documents extremely low rates of the same diseases in population eating below 5% animal protein. The protein in all the studies, animal and human, was casein. Eight thousand statistically significant correlations resulted from this study. (“Statistically significant” means the likelihood the finding is due to chance is less than 5 percent.) These findings definitively decimate average American mothers’ nutrition beliefs that feeding their children dairy products will build strong bones and lead to good health.
The fact is this: Baby humans need human breast milk until about 18 months of age, when they start producing digestive enzymes to break down solid food). Only baby cows need cow milk. Nothing can substitute human breast milk for infants 0-18 months. And if breastfeeding is impossible, some experts suggest, that the better alternative may be raw goat milk (and definitely not soy milk).
But what about calcium, you may ask?
If you are worried about the calcium, you should not be. Get your calcium from leafy greens, as the dairy products nutrition is bioavailable to cows but not humans.

Juice, What a Surprise!
So, here is my response to that campaign.
Well, while I am not totally against milk (although there are many valid arguments against drinking milk), I feel that not enough emphasis is given to a much healthier alternative: fresh raw juice, especially GREEN JUICE.
First I considered taking picture of myself with a green juice mustache, but I am not a celebrity.
That’s when I thought about Mona Lisa.
Not sure if she was a milk drinker or not, but I hope she wouldn’t mind.
I decided to unscrupulously use her image anyway for the greater good!

So, if you are willing to try a great juicing recipe for green vegetables and kale that will give you lots of energy, here it is. This is a recipe for a delicious green juice with apples and lemon:
Simplified version:
1 head romaine lettuce or celery
5-6 leaves of kale (you can add some other greens too, such as spinach, dandelion, or parsley)
1-2 apples or pears (green apples are less sweet, more tart)
1 lemon (not peeled)

Optional ingredients – be creative:
1 cucumber
1 cup of spinach leaves
1/4 to 1/2 ripe Hawaiian papaya
1 handful of cilantro or parsley
1 handful of fennel (stalk can be used too)
You may also like to add some beets or carrots, but then of course it will no longer be a green juice. Some people like to add small slice of garlic and/or ginger.
