Juicing & Domino Effect: Let’s Kick of the Juicing Challenge Already!

“What’s the ONE Thing you can do this week such that by doing it everything else would be easier or unnecessary?”

This question actually comes from a book “The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results” (which you can find here on Amazon – I’ll summarize the main points below, so bear with me).

The book talks about how committing to ONE SMALL thing (and making sure it gets done, no matter what!) can get you EXTRAORDINARY results in business, and in life (and it certainly works for health and wellness, as well).

So, how about committing to drinking a cup (or a quart) of juice today and every day!

Now, let’s not kid ourselves here, I know that by drinking one big glass of juice today you are not going to see extraordinary results tomorrow, especially if you’ve been eating crappy pseudo-foods most of your life and not stimulating your body with enough physical activity.

However, I assure you that the impact it may have on your life OVER TIME is far beyond what you can envision right now.

Just imagine what will happen if you keep doing this one simple thing each and every day, for the next several weeks, months or years. Then this little JUICING HABIT will lead to another change and another, perhaps you also start drinking green smoothies, stop eating junk food, start exercising, and whatnot…

Picture yourself in six months or one year becoming healthier, leaner, having more energy, mental clarity and awareness.

People start noticing something different about you. You are not aging as quickly as everybody else, and you start looking younger than your peers (which you think is kind of cool and flattering). They start commenting that you don’t look your age. You don’t need to go to the doctor as often, perhaps just for periodic checkups. You feel more energetic, so you can finally do things you have been putting off for later. And this list can go on and on…

And if you don’t, a year from now you’ll just wish you started today…

So, it’s not just about blending and drinking a glass of green mush…

It’s about RESETTING your taste buds, your body, your health and YOUR ENTIRE LIFE…

It’s about starting a DOMINO EFFECT in your life…

Here is an excerpt from the book that explains the power of domino effect:

“In Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, on Domino Day, November 13, 2009, Weijers Domino Productions coordinated the world record domino fall by lining up more than 4,491,863 dominoes in a dazzling display. In this instance, a single domino set in motion a domino fall that cumulatively unleashed more than 94,000 joules of energy, which is as much energy as it takes for an average-sized male to do 545 pushups.

Each standing domino represents a small amount of potential energy you’ve accumulated. Line up enough and, with a simple flick, you can start chain reaction of surprising power. And Weijers Domino Productions proved it. When one thing, the right thing is set in motion, it can topple many things. And that’s not all.

In 1983, Lorne Whitehead wrote in the American Journal of Physics that he’d discovered that domino falls could not only topple many things, they could also topple bigger things. He described how a single domino is capable of bringing down another domino that is actually 50 percent larger.

Do you see the implication? Not only can one knock over others but also others that are successively larger. In 2001 a physicist from San Francisco’s Exploratorium reproduced Whitehead’s experiment by creating eight dominoes out of plywood, each of which was 50 percent larger than the one before. The first was a mere two inches, the last almost three feet tall. The resulting domino fall began with a gentle tick and quickly ended ‘with a loud SLAM.’

Imagine what would happen if this kept going. If a regular domino fall is a linear progression, Whitehead’s would be described as a geometric progression. The result could defy the imagination.…Number 57 would practically bridge the distance between the earth and the moon!”

So when you think about success – whether you want to lose weight, recover from an illness, or simply feel better, shoot for the moon.

“Getting extraordinary results is all about creating a domino effect in your life.”

You do the right thing and then you do the next right thing. Over time it adds up, and the geometric potential of success is unleashed. The domino effect applies to the big picture, like your work or your business, your family and health, and it applies to the smallest moment in each day when you’re trying to decide what to do next or what to eat next.

Success builds on success, and as this happens, over and over, you move toward the highest success possible.

The key is it happens OVER TIME. Success is build sequentially. It’s one thing at a time.

When you see someone who is radiant and healthy, or successful and rich, they accomplished it over time.

And another important thing is…when you want the absolute best chance to succeed at anything you want, your approach should always be the same. GO SMALL.

Why? Because when you go as small as possible, you’ll be staring at one thing. And that’s the point.

You only have so much time and energy, so when you spread yourself out, you end up spreading thin. Going small is a simple approach to extraordinary results, and it works. It works all the time, anywhere and on anything.

So I want you reflect on what you just read as you accomplish your ONE SMALL THING for today – have your JUICE (recipes below).

Also, since this is the first day of the rest of your extraordinary life 😉 I also want you to record where you are right now.

So, here assignment for the next couple of days.

Juicing Challenge Assignment for Day 1-5

Write down the following…

  • What does a typical day’s eating and exercising (physical activity) look like for you at the moment? Note it down, quickly – don’t over analyze, just write down the gist.
  • What feels right?
  • What feels really wrong, icky, ugh or just uncomfortable (note: this might even be stuff that you think you’re doing right – write it down anyway)
  • What are you proud of about the way you eat lately?
  • How are you feeling right now? How is your energy level? Your health? Your skin?
  • Take note of everything that’s bothering you, as well as everything that you are happy about.

Here are some ways you might like to record where you’re at today – the starting point of this challenge:

  • Photos or a single photo
  • Quick measurements with a tape: waist, butt at biggest point, chest
  • Body fat measurements if possible
  • A piece of clothing
  • It’s up to you if you want to take specific measurements.

Juicing Challenge Recipes Day 1-5

Start simple. I want you to start with a few simple recipes that you really like.

Make yourself a glass or, better yet, a quart of your favorite juice. If you don’t have a favorite, just use these green juice recipes or the recipes below for inspiration.

Start where you are. If you are just starting with juicing – drink a cup of juice every day. If you are already drinking juices, commit to doubling the amount of smoothies or doubling the amount of greens in the smoothies (or both).

Super-Simple Carrot Apple Juice

  • 4 carrots
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 1 apple
  • 4 springs fresh parsley (optional)
  • Makes 1 serving (about 2 cups)

Carrot Celery Fennel Juice

  • 4 stalks celery
  • 2 carrots
  • 1/4 fresh fennel bulb
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin (optional)
  • Makes 1 serving (about 2 cups)
  • Using a juicer, process celery, carrots and fennel. Whisk in cumin. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Carrot Apple Lemon Juice

  • 6 medium-large carrots
  • 3 medium Fuji apples, cored and sliced
  • 3 large celery stalks
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, stem and seeds removed and sliced
  • 3 large Romaine lettuce leaves
  • juice of 1 medium lemon (optional)
  • Makes 2 servings (about 4 cups)

 Beet It Juice

  • 2 beets
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 apple
  • 1 lemon, peeled (optional)
  • 1 cup or 3 leaves kale (optional)

Celery Green Apple Spinach Juice

  • 2 large celery stalks
  • 5 medium Granny Smith apples, cored and sliced
  • 1 medium bunch spinach
  • In your juicer, alternate pressing celery, green apple slices and spinach. Stir, pour into a glass and serve immediately.
  • Makes about 4 cups.

Put all the ingredients through a juicer. Alternate between harder foods, like beets and carrots, and kale to help move everything through smoothly.

Cucumber Beet Carrot Juice

  • 12 medium carrots
  • 1 medium-large cucumber
  • 1 large red beet
  • 3 medium beet greens
  • Makes 2 servings (about 4 cups)

Mean Green Juice

With the popularity of the “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” movie, many people are searching for the mean green juice recipe featured in that film.

  • 4 stalks of celery
  • 1 cucumber (peel off skin)
  • 1 ginger root (thumb size – peel off skin)
  • 1/2 lemon (skin cut off)
  • 2 green apples
  • 6 kale leaves


Fresh fruit juice, healthy drinks.

    I can’t wait to try this challenge. I am 62 and bored with my eating habits. Sometimes I even forget to eat, no it’s not that I’m old and forgetful, it’s just that I’m bored and don’t feel like eating. So this sounds very exciting to try.

    Hi Vicki, I’m glad to have you on board! I know what you mean with being bored with eating. That’s why I so LOVE juices and smoothies (I drink a lot of green smoothies in addition to juices) — I never seem to get tired of them …and I never regret drinking them (like I sometimes do with other foods, especially the ones in restaurants or bought ready made, with too much fats, salt and other who-knows-what).
