Juice Fasting For Weight Loss: Is It Ever a Good Idea to Juice Fast to Lose Weight Quickly?

If you wish to lose some weight quickly, chances are you have considered fasting or juice fasting to speed up the the weight loss.

Perhaps you’ve seen Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead movie and want to achieve similar results for yourself.

Or you may have came across lemon juice diet or cranberry juice diet, or other – and may be wondering if you should give it a try.

What is Juice Fasting?

When juice fasting, one drinks lots of fruits and vegetables and abstains from eating solid food. So, juice fasting, in a nutshell, is the substitution of solid food in favor of raw fruits and/or vegetables liquefied in a juicer. It is basically a liquid diet carried out for as little as 24 hours to as long as 100 days and beyond, depending on the purpose for which it is being done.

Note: Juice fasting is not really fasting in the strict understanding of the word – and should really be referred to as juice diet. True fasting usually means consuming nothing but water. However, many people refer to “juice diet” as “juice fasting” – meaning consuming nothing but juice, and that’s what we are talking about here.

Juice Fasting for Weight Loss: How Much Can You Lose?

Without a doubt, juice fasting for weight loss will help you lose those pounds quickly.

Just watch Joe Cross from the Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead movie, who goes all the way and does juice fasting for 60 days, living on nothing but fresh vegetable juice!

Generally speaking, during the first seven days of juice fasting one can easily lose anywhere between 10-to-40 pounds.

Even though most of that initial weight loss will be water weight, it is weight loss nonetheless. That can certainly give you a great start and motivation to continue the fast.

After seven days the weight loss slows down to about half-a-pound to one pound per day, depending on the level of activity and quantity of juice you drink (I’ll talk more about this in a little while).

A 30-day juice fast can help one to lose 25-to-40 pounds. But there are some who lose much more.

The numbers will fluctuate depending on how your body is made and your lifestyle. If you stick to the half-a-pound to one-pound-per-day figure, you will not be disappointed. Anything additional to that will be a bonus.

Is Juice Fasting For You?

Juicing, Fasting, and Detoxing for Life Fresh juices act as a healthy appetite and craving suppressant and is therefore invaluable in any diet and nutrition program. However, while water fasting and juice fasting are probably two of the fastest ways to lose weight, before you embark on a fast you need to consider your own situation and motivation.

Fasting is certainly a great way to give your body a break from all the hard work it is doing digesting and eliminating the foods you eat. It can do wonders to your body, allowing it to cleanse itself, heal, and – of course – lose weight.

However, if you are considering a fasting for weight loss – there is one thing you need to keep in mind.

If you are unable or unwilling to make PERMANENT changes to your diet and follow a healthy eating plan after the fast, then you will most likely gain your weight right back after the fast.

Mind you, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the benefits of the fast will go to waste – as even a couple of days of juice fast can provide your body with fantastic health benefits.

Keeping your menu to liquids – fruit, vegetable and green juices! is an excellent way to aid your body’s natural repair cycles. Since our bodies are usually far too acidic, this is a good way to help flush out all the bad things and replace them with the good ones we need.

So, I’m not telling you not to fast.

I’m just saying that your weight will come back if you don’t change your ways permanently! But that is probably true with most diets :-(

That is why fasting may not the best (or easiest) option for most overweight people who are simply trying to lose some weight. It is FAR MORE IMPORTANT for them to adopt a healthy diet and active life-style to maintain their ideal weight and be healthy in the long term.

What you need to understand that fasting will slow down your metabolism, and this lowered metabolic rate will last for as long as six weeks after you end the fast. So if you go back to your old eating habits – you will actually put on weight even more quickly than before. ”


 So, what’s the solution?

Juice Fasting for Weight Loss: Start Slowly and Proceed with Caution

Don’t give up on your dreams of juice fasting or weight loss — just don’t set the bar so high that when you fail you have a negative opinion of juice fasting and you give up on losing weight forever.

Instead of jumping head on into fasting, start by incorporating fresh, raw juices into your daily life. Have a fresh glass of vegetable or fruit juice with your breakfast. Toss your salad into the juicer or blender and drink it instead of eating it. Or have a green smoothie.

At the same time, make an effort to taper-off sugar, starches and greasy foods. Eat less. Eat more fresh raw vegetables, fruits and greens. Cut out steaks, pastries and anything with a high sugar or fat content.

Once you learn to love raw juice and you are eating more raw foods, you’ll probably notice you feel better, some inches and/or pounds may start leaving, and you might even find that you have a different emotional and mental connection to food.

Give yourself time and prepare your body and your mind for a juice fast before attempting to embark on the fasting journey.

If you’re psychologically and emotionally prepared for a juice fast and you happen to lose weight while on your juice fasting journey, you’re more likely to keep those pounds off once you start eating again.

What juice to drink on a juice fast?

Drink juice made from vegetables, greens and fruits. During the fast, prepare juices made up of a COMBINATION raw vegetables and fruits, organic if you can find them and your budget permits. If not, don’t worry about it. Regular fruits and vegetables will do just fine. But I do recommend that you combine them.

Some people choose to drink juice only from fruits. However, this is not optimal for weight loss because many fruits contain lots of sugar which can spike cravings and have an adverse effect on blood-sugar levels.

Besides, vegetables have tons of nutrients that I don’t want you to miss out on.

So juice BOTH juice and vegetables, and toss in some greens to boot!

If you shy away from veggies and greens because you don’t like their taste: JUST GET OVER IT!

Trust me: even if at first you don’t like them, liquefied veggies will grow on you.

Why? Because you’ll know the same secret others have discovered who lost weight while juice fasting and have kept it off: You’ll be mentally and emotionally at peace and you will finally be in charge of your destiny with food!

Rather than concentrating on juicing for weight loss, focus on juicing for health. Juicing will let you experience so many benefits – increased energy, fewer cravings for unhealthy stuff, improved health – that you will not have any inclination to continue your “old ways.”

Commit yourself to incorporate fresh juicing into your lifestyle –  and it will surely create a healthier, thinner, and happier YOU.

How long should you fast?

The length of juice fasting can range anywhere from three to forty days. Once you get going, you may choose to continue fast for a few days or go on a longer juice fast of 20, 30 or even 40 days. It is really not that difficult once you get going on a fast, but check with your doctor if you have any health conditions or concerns. Three days is an excellent tune up. Thirty days is the standard therapy recommended by many health professionals. If you deal with compulsive eating, start with shorter fasts so you may learn how to break the fast correctly.

Refreshing Cleansing Celery Pear Cucumber Juice

2 pears
4 stalks celery
2 cucumbers

Green Lemonade Recipe

4-8 leaves of romaine lettuce and/or kale
2 large apples
2 lemons
1 carrot (optional)

Mean Green Juice Recipe

4 stalks of celery
1 cucumber — (peel off skin)
1 ginger root — (thumb size – peel off skin)
1/2 lemon — (skin cut off)
2 green apples
6 kale leaves

    Juice fasting for weight loss can be very effective, but it does need a lot of self motivation because if you go back to your old eating habits, you can go back or even exceed to you former weight. What’s important about juicing is that it provides you a lot of vitamins and minerals, making you a healthier being and that’s whats important above all. I also believe that weight loss will follow if you have a proper diet that contains all the nutrients that our body needed, combined with regular exercise to keep you fit and healthy.

    Hello,
    I am a firefighter and just discovered “Juicing” I want to lose 30 pounds and change my eating habbits. I just started yesterday. My question is, is it ok to juice with just fruit, and incorporate no carb foods between drinks? Eggs, low fat cottage cheese…

    I want to approach my changes this way and would like to know if this is a correct way to approach.

    I have been mixing both fruit an veg, i think if you used low sugar fruits, might be ok, like citrus, apparantly good for fat burning i heard? but greens are great!
    first time i had a green juice i thought…’omg, pond water…’ i was used to eating all sorts of rubbish tho lol but now it only gets better:) everyone says i have a good glow :) remember, what you put in the body shows on the body! 😛 here’s what i have most times :)

    1/2 beetroot
    1/2 apple
    1/2 orange
    1/2 lemon
    1/2 grapefruit
    x3 strawberries
    x2 celery stalks
    1/2 a big cucumber
    x2 handfuls of spinach wrapped in x2 spring green leaf
    x2 handfuls of kale wrapped in x2 spring geen leaf

    i think that’s it :) it’s a bit tangy but not bad :) just imagine how good it is tho so i’ll drink it either way 😛
    u could always add cayenne pepper to juices to speed up your metabolism :) i hope anyone who tries my juice likes it? hehe, very good for you!
