Parsley should not be used in large quantities by pregnant women, or people on anti-coagulant medications. There is some controversy about people using parsley if kidney disease is present. Anyone who has been diagnosed with kidney disease should consult a doctor before using large quantities of parsley.
Like most green super-foods parsley is usually considered too potent to be taken alone. For this reason it is recommended to mix it with other fruits or vegetables.
Here are some ideas of good additions to parsley for kidney and liver detox.
Carrot juice is another cleanser for the body.
Celery strengthens liver and kidneys and is helpful in eliminating toxins.
Cucumbers are diuretic, they can help the elimination of uric acid.
– Lemon juice
Juice that incorporates a fresh lemon is a wonderful cleanser, and it can help dissolve mineral deposits that are the source of kidney stones. It also reduces the oxidation of other ingredients in the juices you make.
Watermelon is good to cleanse kidneys. Seeds have beneficial properties for people who suffer from kidney stones.
Here are a couple of parsley juice recipes that include the ingredients previously listed.
This recipe is made in a juicer and the next recipe is made in a blender.
Carrot, celery, cucumber, lemon, parsley and beet juicer recipe.
- 2 or 3 organic carrots
- 2 organic celery stalks or ribs. (Not the whole head)
- 1 beet
- 1 small organic cucumber with the peel. (Peel the cucumber if it is not organic)
- 1 lemon juiced (always remove lemon seeds)
- 1 oz organic parsley soaked in tepid water. One ounce = about half a bunch
Pour lemon juice in the receptacle part of the juicer with a couple of ice cubes, to help slow the degradation of the other ingredients.
Place all ingredients in the juicer alternation between soft and hard vegetables. Insert parsley in between vegetables as you go along.
Mix well and drink.
Blender parsley, fruit and vegetable smoothie
Here is another recipe that is made using a blender because the high content of water in watermelon and cucumber makes them less suited for a juicer.
Use the seeds in the watermelon and the cucumber to add additional nutrients to the smoothie.
- Watermelon (fill the blender with it as much as you can)
- ½ oz organic parsley
- 1 large lemon juiced (remove seeds)
- 1 large organic cucumber diced with peel and seed kept. (Peel the cucumber if it is not organic).
Mix all ingredients together in the blender and drink right away.
This smoothie is very refreshing and extremely good for cleansing and detoxing kidneys. You can even improve on it by adding a little barley juice.
Please remember that watermelon juice does keep well once mixed, you should therefore mix it just before you want to drink it.
