Whether making juices and green smoothies is something completely new that you decided to try by joining this challenge, or you’ve been already doing it for a while and just decided to join the challenge to keep you motivated and step up your routine a little bit… CONGRATULATIONS for making it to Week 2!

You’ve taken an important step forward not just toward physical health, but to improve your overall well-being as well.

“Health is not everything, but without health, everything is nothing”

(Schopenhauer, German philosopher)

You can really get confused with all the the information that is out there, and especially since so much of it is contradictory. You can look up any scientific study and in almost every case you will find the complete opposite for it.

What most people don’t realize is that scientific studies are often swayed by those who fund them. What you read in the papers and online, is often inaccurate or only tells a part of the story. Big money is being spent on media campaigns and public relations, and much of what you read is nothing more than clever marketing disguised as scientific health advice.

And who has the time to read it all and get to the bottom of it to find out the truth?

Certainly, most people don’t have time to do it. And people who are sick are especially busy, and yet they need this information the most.

The truth is achieving optimum health doesn’t have to be hard or complicated.

I strongly believe that nature has set us up for success, and that means vibrant health, energy, optimum weight and freedom from chronic disease – we were not meant to be sick all the time! – if we only take charge of our health and follow the nature’s way.

Health is our birthright and the most important thing that we have. Without it, we cannot be alive (at least not for long), we cannot achieve our full potential, we cannot take care of our loved ones, we cannot work and we cannot enjoy life!

By joining this challenge you took action to claim that birthright for yourself.

With all the controversies about what we should be eating, and differences of opinions on what constitutes a healthy diet and what is not; most health experts today agree on one thing: that we should be adding a few servings of fruits and vegetables to our diet every day.

However, thinking about healthy diet in this manner doesn’t adequately address the severe health crisis that we in today.

Adding a cup or two of fruits and veggies to the diet that most of us are eating today is NOT going to be a big enough change to produce any noticeable results.

What we need to do, is to make these unrefined, plant-based foods: greens, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, mushrooms, grains and beans – the cornerstone of our diet. We must overload our bodies with the micro-nutrients that these foods provide in order to heal any ailments that we have and to prevent disease from afflicting us in the future.

While the perfect diet may vary from individual to individual, the diet that is the most health promoting, as well as best for the environment, is a plant-centered, whole foods diet, focused on raw fruits, vegetables and greens, with minimal or no processed foods.

So, are you going to claim that birthright or are you going to continue on your current path, while complaining about the lack of time, general circumstances, or perhaps blaming it all on your genes?

Or are you going to take control of your health and well-being, and do what it takes as if your life depended on it?

The important part is to understand that – ultimately – YOU are the one who is responsible for your own well-being, and the well-being of your children, and that you shouldn’t hand over the responsibility for your health to anyone else, regardless of their title and scientific credentials.

So, download the Recipes and Shopping List for Week 2, as well as read the tips on how to deal with the cleansing reaction and how to help you body detox, and let’s continue!

PS. What to Do About Cleansing Reaction? A Few Tips for Dealing with Detox Symptoms

Mild detox symptoms are fine, but you don’t want them to become so intense they take over your life and make you really ill. In fact, if you do feel ill, you may be reabsorbing toxins rather than removing them.

1. If the detox feels too intense, drink lots of water and get as much rest as possible. If it still feels like too much, you may reduce the amount of smoothies and juices temporarily, to slow down the symptoms, but don’t abandon the routine.

If you’re really having intense detox symptoms you can’t handle or feel like they’re more detrimental than helpful to your cleanse, there are several things you can do to resolve the situation. The first thing to do is add 2 or 3 tablespoons chia seeds into your next smoothie or juice, or simply mix it with water and some lemon juice. Just be sure to stir the combination well and let it sit for at least 10 minutes to let the chia seeds gel. This gel is incredibly nutritious and is very healing to your digestive system. It helps absorb the toxins and adds enough bulk to push them out of your body.
If you are drinking a lot of juices, you can switch to green smoothies. This way your body has more of a sensation of fullness and you get in a little bowel cleansing fiber without disrupting your cleansing.

2. If a “cleansing reaction” lasts longer than 2 weeks, it’s possible that you may be looking at a food sensitivity, or some other health issue, so you may want to consult your doctor.

My Juicer: Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain

The juicer that I currently use (BTW it’s the same as filmed in the Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead documentary) is Breville Juice Fountain JE98XL which you can find on Amazon or in any store that carries kitchen appliances. If you’re on the market for a juicer, it's a good juicer to consider.
